The bbRad Network

A personal message from Managing Director Marco Crispini:

Help us to help you - spread the word. I'd like to ask you, our existing bbRad sites, to help spread the word, by encouraging other sites to join the bbRad network. Let's think about this from the non-bbRad site's perspective...

Why don't hospitals join the bbRad network more quickly? A new hospital may be on the peripherary of our network's existing coverage. So from their point of view, a plain DICOM connection for one site may seem simpler. The problem is these are not scalable, requiring significant co-ordination effort as the DICOM network grows, or when a configuration changes. Not to mention patient safety issues with potential patient number collisions, and information governance issues on encryption and audit.

But!... if two or more sites contact them requesting a bbRad connection, then the case for joining the network is, understandably, much clearer for them.

As your data sharing needs depend on a large number of factors (specialty, casemix, waiting list, staffing, etc), you are best placed to send these connection requests as and when they arise. And several times if you have to transfer data several times. Your request can be by telephone, by email or by letter. Here is a suggested letter for data sharing sites. Please could I ask you to take 5 minutes to download and post out to your colleagues?

Thank you in advance,
Marco

When can I send to newly added sites? As soon as they go live. Any time that a site is added the network, not only is that site automatically added to your configuration, but you also get an email notification advising you of this.

Can't remember if that site you want to send to is on bbRad? No problem, just go into the bbRad Console, select the study or studies, select Route and then click on 'All Recipients'. You'll find every site on the bbRad network on this list.

Now you can select your desired Recipient, click on Route, and the studies are encrypted, securely transferred, and automatically imported into the Recipient's PACS or other viewing facility, ready for the clinician to view them, without any further intervention.

Let's Connect England

We plan to grow from 20% to 80% of Acute NHS Trusts by December 2009, and to do this we need your help to get rid of even more CD transfers. Please help us to help you by spreading the word that the NHS does not have to make do with either CDs or cumbersome individual DICOM connections, but to use bbRad instead.
