Sybermedica and Cypher I.T. launch automated DICOM mail service
Sybermedica and Cypher Information Technology have announced an agreement to link their PACSMail and bbRad image and report sharing technologies to provide a secure, flexible, automated data sharing service for clinical networks.
The link allows users of Cypher I.T.'s bbRad teleradiology server to share DICOM studies with users of the
Sybermedica PACSMail network. The joint solution combines PACSMail's DICOM messaging and viewing functions
with bbRad's workflow solution to control the automated entry of images and reports directly into PACS / RIS.
Studies can also be cc’d via PACSMail to other users within the hospital or to the wider healthcare community.
Marco Crispini, Cypher I.T.'’s Managing Director, said ‘this is a significant development. It truly enables the
‘any image, anywhere’ vision. Trusts will now be able to link not just to their regular, high-volume NHS and
private sector neighbours, but also receive imaging from ad-hoc senders anywhere in the UK or world-wide with
minimal fuss and virtually nil setup required. It enables smaller and mid-sized sites, whether NHS or not, to
both refer patients to and seek advice from specialist centres of their choice.’
Sybermedica’s CEO Steve Gatley said ‘we are delighted with this new development which effectively creates a
national mail service for DICOM study transmission. PACSMail allows users to post images via the network; bbRad
then acts as the sorting office, automatically forwarding the images into the appropriate PACS/RIS workflow.
Setting up a PACSMail account takes just a few minutes and the pay-per-use option allows sites to become users
with no capital outlay’

How does this benefit bbRad sites?
bbRad sites have always enjoyed being able to set up a free connection
at any site that they wanted to share images with. But these connections
have a short lead time to set up.
With PACSMail's 10-minutes to download and register, this lead time is
now negligible. So this is great for an occasional ad-hoc send, for example
a holiday-maker being referred back to their 'home' hospital.
No more Medico-legal CDs!
Because PACSMail comprises an easy-to-use viewer too, this is ideal for
solicitors.
Now even CDs for medico-legal cases, long thought of as being unavoidable,
can be removed, conferring immediate security benefits to NHS Trusts, as
well as the obvious process and time improvements that come from removing CDs.
