bbRad Version 2 builds on the excellent core of workflow and 'push model' data sharing in the original bbRad, but brings together many improvements to the bbRad software and our bbRad.net service to deliver the following:

  • Any-to-any data sharing across the whole bbRad network
  • Full workflow automation for HSS CRIS and Misys sites
  • IHE Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS-I)
  • Massive scalability for area-wide and national coverage

In line with our upgrade policy, upgrades are free - for both full Enterprise sites and for free Connect sites too.

The Need for PACS Data Sharing

The “any image, anywhere” vision can be achieved through web data sharing. This is great for ad-hoc viewing but in most cases, having the image in your local PACS is required - and this is a messy and manual process, which is open to human error. Referral sites need the image locally to avoid constant switching between the radiologists’ application and the web application – including MDT meetings run on clinician workstations and simple comparisons on radiologist workstations.Having the image locally is also required to use existing work-practices such as RIS driving the PACS with desktop integration, voice recognition, orthopaedic templating, CAD and 3D processing.

The bbRad Solution

bbRad is a well-established and mature product, having handled thousands of data transfers in Britain since 2006.

It does not only the transfer or image routing part of data sharing, but also exporting and importing into the recipients PACS and RIS. bbRad automates all of this, thus bringing smooth, efficient workflow, instead of clunky procedures. Think of it as a "DICOM Router" plus workflow.

Inter-operability

bbRad also inter-operates with third-party ad-hoc image transfer and image viewer solutions, such as PACSMail. This allows users of Cypher I.T.'s bbRad teleradiology server to share DICOM studies with users of the Sybermedica PACSMail network. The joint solution combines PACSMail's DICOM messaging and viewing functions with bbRad's workflow solution to control the automated entry of images and reports directly into PACS / RIS. Studies can also be sent outbound from hospitals to PACSMails clients, for example medico-legal requests to solicitors.
