exoPACS - Hospital-wide Viewing of Foreign Films

exoPACS (see exo- on Wikitionary) was conceived to reduce PACS teams' administrative workload when receiving studies from external hospitals. It saves them having to register EVERY inbound study on PAS, RIS and PACS. Instead, clinicians hospital-wide can review studies immediately, without any intervention needed. Studies are kept for 3 months, so only those studies needed for permanent storage need to be registered onto PACS, thus saving everyone work.

Because exoPACS is uses a zero-install web client (ie no ActiveX or Java) it is viewable from any browser, even from an account with very restricted permissions.

As well as the use-case described above, exoPACS is also used to bring together multiple disparate archives into a single view. These may be legacy PACS, small departmental archives, or major PACS installations on different sites, for example hospitals are merged.
